MORE......ALONG THE BEACONS WAY

Just a few more photographs taken on my April 2007 solo backpacking trip along the Beacons Way.
The first picture is one of my wild pitches-
The next shot was taken when I came off route near Crickhowell in search of a pub for lunch and the final shot follows on from my last posting and is looking down on Llanthony Priory where I camped for the night.
The Priory is in a splendid setting and has some very interesting ruins.
This trip was one of those routes that for me was better for walking it alone. I can remember really enjoying the fact that I was walking solo with the freedom to stop whenever I wanted and even come off route on a few occasions to find a pub without having a discussion about it first.
Some times walking is like a form of meditation-time passes without me even being aware of it and it almost feels that I am totally at one with my surroundings and the further landscape. It is almost like floating along. I have experienced feelings like this on a number of backpacking trips-usually after the first couple of days and always when solo never when I have a companion.

Cool, I like your ideas about walking alone, nothing beats it.
I did a couple of bits of the Breacon Way last September( Bannou Sir Gear, and Pen-y-Fan) and will try to blog them later, Its my Project for February, but in the meantime I look out for the rest of your trip and your photos

Hmm... You might know where my own photo was taken :)

Hi Ratdog
Yes- I certainly recognise the view. I should get to that area in the next posting or two along the Beacon Way.
Glad I was able to touch a chord with you about walking solo.

Enjoying these photos Trevor. Last June I did a circuit from Llangattock, along the canal to Abergavenny and then the Beacons Way back to Crickhowell. I plan to do some more this year.

Hi- Glad that the photos are of some interest.
Am I right in thinking that Dorset Backpacker is in fact fellow BPC member John Y ?

Yes, that's me. I would put something on the blog, but since I stopped going to work everyday, I don't seem to have any time. The BPC are going to Llantony at the end of Feb. I went on the same weekend in Feb 2008 and it was very well attended (~25 people).

Hi John-

I thought that the picture looked like you.

A pretty poor excuse regarding not working and the blog.....!
I stopped working last May and since then and my cancer diagnosis have spent half of my life at hospitals but there is always time to send off the odd posting or two-I will keep my eyes open for your first entry and then put in a link from my blog.

Trust you are keeping OK.

I agree about walking alone sometimes it is nice not to have a small committee meeting every time a decision is needed. But then I also like being out in the with other people to enjoy it with them ... happy either way really so not sure why I started this now.

that is supposed to say "out in the wild with other people" sorry.

Hi Ben

Yes- I walk both alone and also with others- it's just that walking solo can be a totally different experience than walking in a group. I'm not saying that I prefer either really- although solo trips are rather special.

Six weeks off.

The visit to see the Consultant went quite well really ...   My ' numbers' have started to creep up again so I am going to be given...
