I just had to.....

GENESIS Core 100
I just had to..... buy a mountain bike that is....!!
Following my recent ride with my daughter and her husband and the two boys it seemed silly not to... I mean I didn't want to have to keep borrowing my daughters Felt MTB everytime I go for a ride with them...having my own MTB seemed to be the way to go.

I didn't want anything too expensive, as a MTB will be just an add on to my real love of road riding but I did want something that seemed good and capable and I wanted good value as well....
I asked for some suggestions on twitter and Gary @gazwagon  came back with a recommendation for Genesis bikes.....

Luckily at this time of year there are a lot of good bike bargains to be had on existing models as the manufacturers introduce their new range of bikes....

I managed to get a Genesis Core 100 with a very nice 40% discount..... the only drawback is the colour...bright orange..!!
Mind you my youngest grandson will approve of it as it is the same colour as his bike....

I did consider a cyclocross bike Steve, but I wanted something that was very different to my other bikes.....hence my visit to the 'dark side'.....

Another one to clean!

MTB can be good fun, but basically not what bikes were made for in my experience.

Looks pretty cool for all that.

I don't think you will be disappointed Trevor from what I've read and seen Genisis make great bikes. .I've done it the other way round to you having bought a road bike after years riding mtb's. .in the last three days I have ridden my mtb Saturday my road bike Sunday and today I have been on a very muddy ride on my single speed pompino cx for the first time in a while and I probably enjoy that the most but tomorrow I've got the unenviable job of trying to find the time to clean them all including my girlfriend's. In the UK you spend just as much time cleaning mtb's as you do riding them ;-)

I imagine that bike packing is not too far behind! Although I spend much more time on the road these days, my body type is probably more at home on a mountain bike tearing down hills than spinning long miles on roads. But it's all fun, as long as you can endure the sideways glances of your road buddies who may suspect that you've gone over to the other side when they see you heading offroad into the hills on a machine with fat knobby tires.

Nice and like you said it makes sense. One thing you may not have thought of, you will save money. The garage light will not have to be turned on owing the bright orange glow illuminating the interior.

.....and cleaning bikes is one of my least favourite activities Mark :-))

*David Adams*
Yes David...a lot of people have told me that Genesis are pretty good bikes at any given price point...
As I said to Mark above, it's the cleaning that I'm not looking forward too..

*JRA*
I'm sure that my road buddies will really poke fun at me for swinging a leg over a MTB.... But I reckon that I will be able to ignore all their jibes....

*John Horner*
Thanks John...I'm looking forward to getting the bike now. Should arrive in a few days time...

*Darren Finley*
Is that what is called 'looking on the bright side' then Darren? :-)

Nice thread of stories from your family day out. I could see it coming from your "looking on line "! You'll be needing a bike depot shortly.

Yes...The "looking on online" was my downfall lol....

Six weeks off.

The visit to see the Consultant went quite well really ...   My ' numbers' have started to creep up again so I am going to be given...
