This past weekend the storm that was named Imogen arrived.... I cannot lie....we did have a few sleepless nights.
First there was the noise of the wind that was pretty well constant... then there was the strong wind gusts that could be heard travelling towards us for up to 20 seconds or more before they hit our caravan.
As if this wasn't enough we also had torrential rain and hail that sounded like boxes of marbles being tipped on our roof....
Once we had been woken up numerous times the worry would set in and that didn't help with trying to get back to sleep....
What were we worrying about??
Well first was our concern that the awning would get ripped off the caravan and blown across the moor...so I would go outside to check the storm straps and pegs etc....
All the straps seemed OK, but then I noticed that the slight ditch that runs along the rear of the caravan between the electric hook-up point and our pitch had turned into a fast flowing stream....
With all the rain that we have had since we arrived here in November the grass is now so sodden that it can't absorb anymore rainfall hence the stream that had appeared. Luckily there is a slight slope here so the rain just sailed along until it reached the tarmac inner site road where it linked up with the rain that had been pouring off the moor and into the site entrance.
Unfortunately it then all headed in the direction of the site office and shop where it cause quite a bit of flooding......
Anyway in the end we managed to avoid any damage to our caravan, awning or car.
The mini stream that had appeared behind our caravan has now disappeared and the site managers have cleaned up the office and shop and it is business as usual....
I don't know if it is just my imagination, but since it was decided that we would start giving these storms names we seem to be getting more storms.
I think I preferred it when all the storms were anonymous.....
Anyway to finish this post, as promised, below I have included some images of my favourite of the Torbay towns..Brixham.
The weather was a lot quieter then, probably the calm before the storm.....

I dont envy you at all being out in the storm, it was bad enough here in the house. Gentle rain in the van is soothing and can send me to sleep but not the winds and downpours that came with Imogen. We experienced a bad storm once in Yorkshire and the wind was causing the van to rock back and fore, luckily all was ok but its worrying thinking whether to stay put or get out.
ReplyDeleteHi Trevor,
ReplyDeleteGlad the winds didn't cause any major upsets. The views of the harbor are really well done. Glad you see some blue skies there too.
Have a Hapoy Weekend!
Peace :)
It just struck me. At my most recent employer, if you inadvertently (or on purpose), tried to access a web page that was on the "forbidden" list, it came with a bright purple screen much the same as your blog page. For April Fool's Day, you might want to replace your usual page with one that makes people blanch over whether they've gotten onto a cyber porn or hate site by accident. Actually, probably not - you'd feel guilty if one of your readers keeled over!
ReplyDeleteBack on topic, a caravan is not a pleasant place to be in a serious storm. We had a tornado go through an "RV" sales place a few years back in DFW and it was NOT a pretty sight. Luckily, all the RV sales people evacuated before the big things started flying around.

ReplyDeleteI agree with your comment regarding gentle rain....Whether in a caravan or a tent I too have always found it soothing.....
Now a 'box of marbles' that's a different matter :-)

Yes, it is nice to see some blue sky back with us again.....

Ha...Ha.... I think I would feel pretty guilty if the blog caused a reader to keel over....interesting idea though!
Luckily we don't have the powerful tornadoes that you seem to get in parts of the USA... If we did I reckon Caravans/RVs would be something that I might not bother with. LOL
Some great shots of Brixham Harbour. Pleased to hear you didn't suffer any damage from the weather.
