TIME FOR A WALK.

BOURNEMOUTH BEACH
I got up today and thought that it was about time I left the bikes at home and went for a walk -I need to keep all the muscles moving even though I am still finding it harder to walk any distance compared to cycling. I know it must sound odd but it seems to be a result of the radiotherapy and I am assured that it will wear off over time.
It's not often that I walk along this section of the coast even though I live just a few hundred yards from where  I stood when I took this photograph. As I have mentioned before the beach area is far to busy during the summer months and this beach is often heaving with holiday makers. Now at this time of year the beach and promenade area is almost empty and a walk along this coastline can be quite pleasurable. I managed a distance of just over twelve miles in total today- and it feels like it. If I had cycled 40-50 miles instead,  my legs would not be aching as much as they are - different muscle groups I suppose.

Hi P.T. Nice to see your part of the world and am glad you have your beach back!

My husband was actually born in Bournemouth and its a place that I've always wanted to visit with him, even though he left when he was young. Your photo helps to remind me that we must do this.

cheers, PA

Empty beaches are truly excellent places to go for a walk. I've had a few walks on empty beaches in Britain, though never Bournemouth. Your photo makes me want to add it to the list sometime in the off-season.

It isn't just different muscle groups. Think of horse racing. Sulky racing allows the horses to go much faster than actually having to carry that weight on their backs.

Your husband having been born in Bournemouth just reminds me what a 'small world' it really is.
Hope you get over here one day 'to walk along the beach'.

Over the years I have done a lot of walking around the British coastline but not always on the beach- cliff walking can be pretty good too. As you say if you are going to add it to your list make it the 'off season'.

Good point there Steve. Cycling is after all a non weight bearing form of exercise.
I have always been better at sports where you sit down- cycling - rowing- drinking at a bar.....!!

Trevor, this is a superb picture that you took on your walk, thanks for sharing the pure sky and empty beach. The one and only time I was there, the beach was heaving.

Thanks for your kind comment - certainly during 'the season' you probably wouldn't see the beach for all the people.

I've been thinking of doing the Bournemouth Coast Path as a winter project. Your picture looks lovely - it's inspired me for when I have completed the LOOP!

Let me know when you plan on doing it and maybe I will be able to walk part of it with you. (If you don't mind a fellow walker's company)
